Sertão Cerrado | José Diniz

The exhibition Sertão Cerrado with photos by José Diniz and curated by Claudia Tavares opened today at Ateliê da Imagem. The venue shows a selection of Diniz’ work in the cerrado, a bioma in central Brazil that covers 25%  of the country’s territory and has been seriously threatened. The photographer focuses on the four natural elements exploring them in separate sequences as well as in photo books: Fogo Cerrado, Vertentes, Delicadeza Bruta and Terra Roxa. He also draws inspiration from João Guimarães Rosa, renown Brazilian author of titles such as Grande Sertão Veredas.

José Diniz has shown his work widely in Brazil and abroad. In 2013 he was the recipient of Premio Marc Ferrez de Fotografia, Brazil’s most prestigious photography prize.
